Warrington Landscapes Back from Hibernation

Even as the cold still clings on the new year has fresh sun to thaw us out, so why not see to your own Warrington landscapes?

It’s easy to think your space can handle the cold without issue. Only greenery is at risk, you might think. Except, this isn’t really true, and there’s work to be done.

Cleaning Away the Frost

Ice is one of those yearly, tricky problems when it comes to our Warrington landscapes. Freezing plants, getting into the cracks of stone and damaging tiles. Without proper and regular attention it can cause real long term damage.

Potentially even a few hundred pounds if you’re not careful.

For driveways, this can be an especially bad prospect. Even without growing plant roots in bushes nearby, your driveway is under a lot of pressure. The weight of any cars on top of it will cause friction and stress.

Which in turn is then compounded by ice getting into the mix. Typically, from the melted ice slipping into gaps caused by stress in the morning. Only to freeze as the temperature drops, expand and cause these gaps to widen.

Driveway maintenance plays a big part in preventing this. If you want to make sure your driveway maintenance keeps the landscape outside your front looking good, it’s best to remove ice regularly as it appears.

Never Leave Your Warrington Landscapes to the Frost

This is true of every space outside your home. Driveway maintenance or back garden maintenance, the same remains true. Allowing ice and snow to naturally melt does take a burden off of you but it puts that burden on your home.

Freeze thawing occurs when this excess water is left unattended. Repeatedly melting and then refreezing across the day.

Even outside of your hard materials you’ll be looking at water logged greens.

If you like more vulnerable plants in your landscaping it’s best to pay careful attention with protecting them during this time too. As we deal with cold snaps and sudden surges while the weather turns, you can take action to protect them with preventative maintenance.

Foremost of which is moving any potted plants to a safer, indoor space. Either in a small greenhouse, shed or similar area. Both to keep ice from damaging the plant itself and to help protect roots from low temperatures.

A cover is also a good option if you have a lot of planted plants. Made of fleece or of similar, breathable material. Which will help to keep ice from growing directly on the plant and trap some heat with it.

And of course there is the matter of applying mulch to the base of plants. Something that insulates roots. Protecting them from sudden drops in temperature.
